Facilities
Rock Island High School is known for having some of the finest athletic facitilites in Illinois and perhaps in the nation.
Rock Island boys' and girls' swimming compete in the Rocky Pool opened in 1959.
The 6-lane pool facility features balcony seating for 345, a state
of the art annimated score/message board, starting blocks and touch
pad timing at both ends of the pool.

Rock Island Pool has been the frequent site of the Illinois High
School Association's Boys' and Girls' State Sectional Swimming Meet.

Rock Island Gymnasium is the home of the Rock Island "Lady Rocks" basketball team.

The gym boasts a new hardwood floor installed in 2001, seating for
1250 spectators, modern locker rooms, and electronic scoreboards at
each end of the gym.

Rock Island Fieldhouse built in 1959 is the home of Boys' Basketball, Girls' Volleyball, and Rocky Wrestling.

With seating for 6,065 Rock Island Fieldhouse is one of the premier
high school sports venues in the nation. The all time Rock Island
basketball scoring record established by former Rocky player and
subsequent NBA star and current NBA coach, Don Nelson, held solid until
it was surpassed in the Fieldhouse in 1995 by Naval Academy recruit,
Josh Elston. Elston's career scoring record held up for only one
year. The existing record was set in 1996 by current NBA player and
former University of Cincinnatti star, Pete Mickel.
Numerous wrestling state qualifiers and medalists have competed in
the Fieldhouse as have many All-Conference and subsequent
college/university volleyball players.

Rock Island's stadium is clearly one of the best, if not THE best
high school football facility in the nation. Three heated and fully
updated locker rooms, a coach's office and locker room, an officials'
locker room, three concession areas, a souvernir shop, a fully
equipped trainer's office, and equipment storage areas are all housed
beneath the home side seating area.

With seating for over 15,000 spectators plus a special section for
spectators with disabilities, spacious press boxes on both sides of the
field, and rented sky boxes available for dedicated supporters, Rocky
Stadium is a great blend of tradition with state of the art technology.

When the "ROCKS" score be prepared! In addition to thousands of
cheering spectators, scores are celebrated with blast from an authentic
"Rock Island Lines" train horn, and a salute from a Vietnam War era
navy signal cannon. Oh, and just for good measure the 150
member "Pride of Rock Island" marching band plays "Fight on Rock
Island" and two huge "RI" field flags are proudly run in front of the
home crowd.

The Stadium serves as home for Rocky Football, Boys' Soccer, Girls'
Soccer, Boys' Track, and Girls' Track. It is also used for Washington
and Edison Jr. High track meets and the annual jr. high school "City
Championship" football game.

system with color camera and finish line photos.

The Shelly Weiner Tennis Complex is home for the Rocks Boys' and Girls' Tennis teams.

The complex features 12 all weather courts and is located directly across 25th Avenue from the high school.
