ROCKY 2008 SUMMER
SPORTS CAMPS
During the summer of 2008, Rock Island High School will offer summer sports camps in numerous areas providing great opportunities for both the beginner and skilled player. Sign up forms for all camps are available at the Rock Island High School Athletic Office. Camps will be offered for:
BASEBALL
Ages 11 and under, June 9 - 13, 8am to 10am at Rocky varsity field. Campers receive a tee shirt, cap and instruction in baseball fundamentals. Bring your glove! Cost is $50 per player, or $90 per family.
Ages 12 and older, June 9 - 13, 10:30am - 12:30pm at Rocky varsity field. Campers receive a tee shirt, cap and instruction in pitching, catching, infield and outfield play, and baserunning. Bring your glove! Cost is $50 per player, or $90 per family.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Youth Camp - 3rd through 6th Grade, June 16-20, 8:00am - 10:00am in the Rocky Fieldhouse. Fundamentals of basketball including individual defense, team defense, rebounding, shooting, passing, ballhandling, footwork, and team offense are stressed. Contests and awards are a fun part of camp. Players will be grouped by ability to ensure individualized instruction. Cost is $30. 4th through 6th graders will receive a $10 credit for RIMBA Registration Fees for the '07-'08 season. Each camper also receives a tee shirt and basketball.
Junior Camp - 7th and 8th Grades, June 16 - June 20, 10:00am - 12:00 Noon, in the Rocky Fieldhouse. Basketball fundamentals including individual defense, team defense, rebounding, shooting, passing, ballhandling, footwork, and team offense are taught at the intermediate level. Team activities, contests and awards add fun to camp. Players will be grouped by ability to ensure individualized instruction. Cost is $30. Each camper also receives a tee shirt and basketball.
High School Camp, June 2 - 6, 2:00pm - 4:30pm; and June 9-12 and 16-19 afternoons - specific time for each team will be announced. Fundamentals will be stressed and players will be exposed to the Rock Island High School system and the expectations of players at Rock Island High School. Basic components of the Runnin' Rocks offense and defense will be stressed. Lectures and drills will expose campers to all aspects of the game. Players will be involved in team games, contests and awards. Each camper receives a tee shirt. Cost is $20.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Elementary Camp - Open to students entering 4th, 5th, and 6th grades, June 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18 in the Rocky gym from 1pm - 2:30pm. Fundamentals will be stressed with individualized instruction to ensure all skill levels are challenged. In addition campers will participate in their own "summer league" providing game opportunities and experience for all participants. Cost is $20 which includes camp instruction, league games, and a reversible game jersey.
Junior Camp - 7th and 8th Grades, June 9,10, 12, 16, 17, 18 from 10am - Noon in the Rocky gym, plus league games in the Galesburg league. Fundamentals of shooting, defense, rebounding, passing, and ball handling will be emphasized. Game skills will be obtained through participation in the Galesburg summer league. Cost is $25 which includes camp instruction, league entry, and a reversible game jersey.
High School Camp, June 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 8:00am - 10:00am in the Rocky gym. Game skills and fundamentals will be keys of emphasis throughout the camp, in addition to league games and tournaments throughout the summer. Cost is $35 which includes camp instruction, league games, and a reversible game jersey.
FOOTBALL
5th - 7th Camp for students entering 5th, 6th, and 7th grades. July 21 - 23, 9:00am - 11:00am. A limited contact camp with helmets and mouth pieces provided as a precautionary measure. "Fun" is the key word for this camp. Fundamentals of football will be taught. Check in at the Rocky Stadium on July 21st at 8:00am. Cost is $35 which includes a tee shirt and football.
8th - 9th Camp for students entering 8th and 9th grades. July 21 - 24, 1:00pm - 3:30pm. This is not a full contact camp. Helpmets, mouth pieces and shoulder pads will be provided as a precautionary measure. Football fundamentals and an introduction to the Rock Island system will be taught. Check in at the Rocky Stadium on July 21st at 12:30pm. Cost is $45 and includes a tee shirt and football.
10th - 12th Camp for students entering 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. July 28 - August 1, 1:00pm - 4:00pm. This is not a full contact camp. Helmets, mouth pieces and shoulder pads will be provided as a precautionary measure. Football fundamentals along with offensive and defensive techniques and development of individual skill will be emphasized. Check in at the rocky Stadium on July 28th at 12:30pm. Cost is $55 which includes a camp tee shirt and a football.
RUNNING & CONDITIONING

SOCCER
Soccer Camp is open to boys and girls entering 6th through 12th grades in the fall of 2008. Campers will meet daily starting Monday, July 7th through Friday, July 11th from 9am to noon at the Rock Island High School soccer practice field located next to the southeast corner of the high school building. Cost is $50 per camper. A single family sending more than two campers will receive half price admission for additional campers. Each student will receive individualized instruction and a camp tee shirt. Camp will emphasize fundamentals, skills, tactics, and team play. Campers should have soccer cleats, shin guards, and water. Sign up forms are available in the High School Athletic Office. Pre registration by June 22nd is required to ensure proper tee shirt size.
SOFTBALL
Two camps for all Rock Island and Milan students entering 3rd through 9th grades in the fall of 2008. Camp will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, June 18th and 19th from 10am to Noon. Camp will be held at the Rock Island High School softball fields located at Francis Willard Elementary School, 1000 - 25th Avenue, Rock Island. Cost is $15 including a camp shirt.
SWIMMING

TENNIS
Tennis camps are offered by head Rocky tennis coach, Jeff McCracken, at both beginner and intermediate levels for students ages 4 - 18. All sessions are held at the Rock Island High School tennis courts. Registration is $35 and a new unopened can of tennis balls. There are two sessions meeting Monday - Thursday. Session 1 is from June 9-19th, Session 2 is from June 23 to July 3rd. Times vary based on age and level of instruction. Contact the Rock Island Athletic Office or the Rock Island Park and Recreation Department for details. Participants should bring a tennis racquet and water bottle to each session.
A free tennis camp is offered by Rocky volunteer assistant coach, Don Hartwig. High School Boys meet every Tuesday and Thursday in June from 7 to 9pm, at Hodge Park in Rock Island. High School girls' meet Mondays and Fridays of June at 6:30 to 8:30pm at Hodge Park. Jr. High Boys meet Mondays from 10am to Noon during June, at Hodge Park in Rock Island and Jr. High Girls Meet on Wednesday in June from 3pm to 5pm at Riverside Park in Moline. Campers should bring a racquet and dress for tennis. All levels are welcome and all will receive individualized instruction.
VOLLEYBALL
Junior Camp open to student entering 5th through 8th grades. June 2 - 6, Noon to 2:00pm. Meet in the Rocky fieldhouse. Individualized instruction in hitting, passing, setting, serving, digging, and team offensive and defensive systems will be provided. Learning sound fundamentals will be emphasized. Cost is $20 and includes a camp shirt.
Senior Camp is open to students entering 9th through 12th grades. June 2 - 6, 8:00am - 11:30am. Meet in the Rocky fieldhouse. Perfecting the skills of the game and position playing will be emphasized. Individualized instruction in hitting, setting, blocking, passing, serving and digging will be provided. Learning the Rock Island systems of offens and defense will be a key part of the instruction. Cost is $20 and includes a camp shirt.
WRESTLING
Elementary Camp is open to students entering 1st through 6th grade. June 2 - 6, 6:00pm - 7:30pm. Meet in the Rock Island High School Fitness Building. Learning the basic skills of wrestling will be emphasized. Campers will be abililty and size grouped to ensure that skills are learned and demonstrated with students of similar size and experience. An outstanding staff of instructors will provide motivation and training for all participants. Cost is $15.
Senior Camp is open to student entering 7th through 12th grade. June 23rd - 27th, 10:00am - 12:30pm. Meet in the Rock Island High School Fitness Building. Campers will receive individual instruction from our staff of five outstanding coaches. Whether just beginning in wrestling or honing skills in preparation for the IHSA state finals, campers will find this camp challenging and fun. Ability and size grouping will be utilized to ensure competition between campers of similar size and experience. Cost is $15.
