What is the S.W.A.P program?
We asked Mrs. Loy a 5/6th grade teacher about our S.W.A.P.
S.W.A.P means school-to-work academic program. S.W.A.P is a program after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays that lasts one hour.
Horace Mann students who want
support in reading were selected to be in the S.W.A.P program. The
inspiration for S.W.A.P was from Mrs. Loy. "We had some students who
needed to work on reading and writing," says Mrs. Loy. "We thought it
would be a fun way to do it."
At S.W.A.P. students participate
in singing silly songs, reading individually, writing about what they
read, reading a-loud, going to the computer lab, picking free
magazines, and absolutely have fun. Oh yes, they each eat a snack too.
In the future S.W.A.P. leaders hope to have a newspaper published by the S.W.A.P group.
